We also provide emergency relief to those in the region who are experiencing extreme hardship and loss through natural disasters such as cyclones, floods or fires. Working to alleviate the hardship and suffering of people experiencing the devastating effects of cyclones and floods is not a major focus for Hands, but the fact that compassion is the engine that drives us means that we help wherever we can. At times this means that we are providing urgently needed supplies of food and clean water. In other situations the help we provide may be more like pumps, pipes and fuel so that villagers can clean out wells contaminated by salt water. Whenever we provide help in such situations we send small teams to work with local people, not only offering supplies and materials but also comfort and encouragement.
